Project Beneficiary: Huston-Brumbaugh Nature Center

For his Eagle project, Nickolas built two rocket-style bat roosts that can house hundreds of bats each. Along with the help of his troop and family, we built and installed these roosts at the edge of a new wetland area at the J. T. Huston - Dr. J.D. Brumbaugh Nature Center for future visitors to enjoy and to learn more about how important bats are and what we can do to help them since bats are an important part of our ecosystem and out of 11 species of bats in Ohio, almost all are considered threatened.

Lainey H.

Salem  |  Troop 2006

Project Beneficiary: Salem Parks and Recreation

Salem, Ohio, is recognized as one of the state's designated "Bee Cities." In 2019, Waterworth Memorial Park established a Bee Garden to support local pollinators. In 2024, under Lainey's supervision, two Bee Hotels were added to the garden. These hotels, consisting of wooden boxes mounted on poles and filled with nesting materials, provide shelter for solitary bee species such as carpenter and mason bees. Unlike honeybees, solitary bees do not form hives but are incredibly efficient pollinators—up to 150 times more effective than honeybees. Their presence is expected to significantly enhance the garden’s vibrancy and lushness.

Wyatt H.

New Waterford  |  Troop 2022

Project Beneficiary: Fairfield Township

Wyatt installed a 70' x 14' turf batting cage near the Crestview Baseball Pony Fields, providing a durable and functional practice area for players. The turf-covered space was built on a crushed stone base to ensure proper drainage. To enhance maintenance and longevity, Wyatt boxed in the turf with treated lumber and backfilled it with topsoil for easier upkeep. Since the fields are maintained by volunteers, his project benefited both the baseball association and the players and coaches, offering a well-maintained and reliable training space for the community.
